Texas Tech University is making significant strides on the global stage, achieving notable rankings in three of the world’s most prestigious university rankings. The acknowledgments highlight the institution's growing reputation in terms of academic quality and its significant research contributions.
The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) has placed Texas Tech at No. 491 among over 21,000 universities globally, positioning it within the top 2.3% of higher education institutions. Texas Tech achieved a national ranking of No. 122. The university has achieved its eighth consecutive year on the CWUR’s Global 2000 list.
In the 2026 QS World University Rankings, released on June 19, Texas Tech achieved a position in the 731–740 range globally, marking a 50-spot improvement from the previous year. The QS rankings evaluate over 1,500 universities, highlighting aspects such as sustainability, academic reputation, employer outcomes, and international collaboration. Texas Tech achieved high rankings in categories such as international faculty (31st), sustainability (68th), and employer reputation (72nd).
In the 2025–26 edition of Best Global Universities by U.S. News & World Report, Texas Tech has achieved a ranking of No. 568 globally, marking a 33-position increase from the prior year. It achieved a ranking of No. 116 among U.S. academic institutions, surpassing regional universities like Oklahoma State, SMU, and TCU. Notable subject-specific rankings featured Space Science at 155, Agricultural Sciences at 216, Plant & Animal Science at 220, and Physics at 299. The university achieved significant advancements in Engineering and Computer Science.

CWUR employs a metrics-driven methodology that emphasizes alumni accomplishments, research output, and faculty excellence. Two years ago, QS revised its methodology to more accurately reflect global academic priorities, including environmental sustainability and the scope of research.
U.S. News collaborates with Clarivate Analytics to assess global research reputation and citation impact. Texas Tech’s steady advancements in various rankings highlight its commitment to excellence and innovation in higher education.
