Officials from Texas Tech athletics are looking into a report that a pocket knife was thrown from the stands, striking a Kansas staff member during the Red Raiders’ home game against the Jayhawks on October 11.

Athletic officials have requested that Texas Tech provide a formal report in response to the allegations made by Kansas coach Lance Leipold. “The Big 12 has asked us to respond to that,” said Tech senior associate athletics director Robert Giovannetti on Monday. “We dedicated several hours yesterday and most of this morning reviewing video from the sideline to prepare our report for them.”

The event reportedly took place in the latter half of the game at Jones AT&T Stadium. Officials at Texas Tech dedicated a significant portion of Sunday and Monday to examining sideline footage and stadium security video to ascertain whether any objects were hurled from the stands.

There has been no confirmation from Texas Tech or the Big 12 regarding the identification of the individual accused of throwing the knife. The conference is scheduled to evaluate Texas Tech’s findings before determining whether disciplinary measures or sanctions are necessary.

Leipold has yet to share additional information regarding the staff member's condition. The investigation remains ongoing.
