Today and tomorrow, the heat comes back quickly, but the holiday weekend will be cooler and less stable.
The cloudy skies and patchy fog of this morning will clear up earlier than they did yesterday. In the morning, the sun will first appear in the southwest. By noon, it will reach Lubbock, and by early afternoon, it will have spread to the northeast. The highs will be hot, and there will be light winds and partly cloudy skies. This afternoon, a few isolated thunderstorms may form over the southeast. A stray storm may move into the far northwest tonight.
Tomorrow appears to be a mostly sunny day that will heat up again in the afternoon. It will be 5 to 10 degrees warmer than usual for late August. Furthermore, there is a small chance that storms will happen tomorrow afternoon and evening.
It will be dark and maybe even foggy at first on Friday. It will get a little cooler in the afternoon, with a mix of sun and clouds. Highs will drop up to 5 degrees below normal. Later in the day, isolated storms may happen.
The chance of a storm goes up Friday night and stays high all weekend. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected at various times from Friday night through Sunday, with heavy rain occurring intermittently. It looks like Saturday night will be the best time for the greatest rain. The area may get an inch of rain or more by the end of the weekend. Some places may get two inches or more.
That means a storm could happen during Friday Night Lights, and it will likely rain a lot on Saturday during the Big Game and other events in the area.
The weather will stay cooler and wetter through Labor Day.
