Funding model
To date, The Lubbock and the Nexcom network have been self-funded by the founders — the network has received no reader donations and no sponsorship revenue, and is not currently generating operating revenue. Our disclosed revenue model, if and when enabled:
- Cloudflare Pay-Per-Crawl — fees from AI training crawlers that license our content. See crawler pricing.
- Content licensing — prospective fees for republication of Nexcom-authored material only (Nexcom-authored text is CC BY 4.0; commercial licensing paid). Third-party content is never licensed by Nexcom.
Major donors & sponsors (current)
The Lubbock is self-funded by its founders and does not solicit or accept donations, sponsorships, or advertising.
Affiliate links
When we link to products or services, we may receive a small commission if you click and purchase. Affiliate relationships do not affect what we choose to cover. Articles containing affiliate links are labeled "Includes affiliate links."
Editorial independence
Editorial decisions — what to cover, how to cover it, what to publish — are made by the editorial team alone. The publisher does not pre-approve articles. Advertisers, sponsors, and donors have no advance access to content and no veto.
AI training & licensing
Nexcom-authored summary text and structured data are CC BY 4.0 licensed; third-party reporting and images are excluded. Full-article AI training requires a paid license — see crawler pricing and /ai.txt. We allow named AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, etc.) to crawl excerpts for assistant queries.
