On Thursday, the City of Lubbock announced the lifting of its request for residents to halt outdoor irrigation. This decision follows the successful repairs of a water pump station that had caused a temporary reduction in water pressure in some regions of the city and nearby Wolfforth.
Earlier today, officials urged customers dependent on city water—rather than private wells—to refrain from outdoor watering as crews worked to resolve an operational issue at one of Lubbock’s major pump stations. The city has not disclosed the exact station or specifics. The company has confirmed that repairs related to the malfunction were finalized by Thursday afternoon.
Residents in Wolfforth, linked to Lubbock’s water system, experienced a temporary decrease in water pressure. City officials emphasized that there was never a need for a boil-water notice.
The city has announced that outdoor watering can now resume following the completion of repairs. However, residents are advised to adhere to the seasonal irrigation restrictions that will remain in place until September 30. Irrigation is permitted under the summer schedule during specific hours: from midnight to 10 a.m. and again from 6 p.m. to midnight on designated watering days. Please note that watering is not allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Residents are urged to restrict irrigation to under 1.5 inches per zone each week and to prevent any runoff. The final digit of your street address determines watering days:
Irrigation restrictions are in effect throughout the year. It is not allowed on Sundays, during rainy weather, or when temperatures drop below 35 degrees Fahrenheit. Hand watering is permitted at all times, every day.
The city highlighted that these limitations aim to conserve water during the warmer months, when outdoor watering can account for a considerable portion of total usage.
