Does Lubbock already have too many places, or do people still want more? A post on a community website asked when the city would stop "flooding citizens with more and more restaurants." This is the question that people in the area are debating.
The original post was quickly taken down, possibly to avoid backlash from local foodies or places that love breadbaskets, but the discussion had already started. In fact, KFYO chose to investigate the issue to find out where people in Lubbock really stand.
According to the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, the city has about 131 places to eat. This includes restaurants, bars, cafés, and even places to have fun. It may seem like there are a lot of choices, but that's not where the story ends.
At least 46 businesses closed just in 2024, showing a high change rate that makes it harder to feel like there is enough. Even though the city seems to be constantly getting new restaurants, many are shutting down.
Some residents also think something is missing when it comes to variety. Residents have said they want a wider range of cuisines, national chains that aren't yet in the area, and locally owned restaurants that serve food that isn't the norm. Others say there are already too many restaurants and that the city should support the ones already there instead of letting new ones open.
So, is the Hub City too crowded or not serviced enough? It changes who you ask.
