Lubbock Citibus is set to increase fares for various specialized transportation services starting January 1, 2026, while maintaining its standard fixed-route fare at $1 per trip, as announced by city officials this week.

The City of Lubbock announced that the updated fare structure will affect Paratransit and On-Demand services, serving residents with disabilities and those who need extra travel support. The change will not affect general bus routes.

With the updated framework, paratransit fares will vary based on distance from established routes. Journeys that start or conclude within three-quarters of a mile from a designated route will be priced at $2. Fares for trips concluding within two miles of a selected route will increase to $5, while rides starting or finishing more than two miles away—but still within city boundaries—will see a rise to $10.

On-demand service prices will also rise under a tiered system based on mileage:

  • Trips under two miles will cost $2.

  • Trips between two and four miles will cost $5.

  • Trips between four and seven miles will cost $7.

  • Trips of seven miles or more will cost $10.

Citibus highlighted that the modifications will not affect fixed-route passengers, ensuring that all standard routes remain accessible for just $1. The agency has issued a reminder to residents that bus services will not be available on major holidays, including New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Citibus reports that on-demand services operate like rideshare platforms, focusing on riders approved under the Americans with Disabilities Act or Medicaid. The initiative was introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to offer adaptable travel solutions for residents who require extra assistance.

Passengers can arrange their pickups through the Citibus Access app, which connects those heading in the same direction. Residents looking to travel beyond Lubbock can utilize the GoPass app for efficient trip planning across various cities.

City officials urged riders to check maps and routes ahead of the fare changes and to stay informed by visiting the Citibus website for updates.
