Joint Task Force-Bravo said Sunday evening that 25-year-old U.S. Army helicopter pilot 1st Lt. Marciano Parisano was found dead Saturday near Comayagua, Honduras. Parisano served at Soto Cano Air Base with the 1st Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment.
According to the Army, Parisano, a Cibolo, Texas, UH-60 Blackhawk pilot, disappeared while on a leisure pass. Local police and troops scoured the Chiquito River for hours before finding his body. A Parisano-related damaged phone was located nearby.
The cause of his death is under investigation. Officials have not disclosed foul play or medical difficulties.
“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts we acknowledge the passing of Lieutenant Marciano Parisano,” said Joint Task Force-Bravo commander Army Col. Daniel Alder. “He served our unit and mission at Soto Cano Air Base with dignity, pride, and courage.”
Joint Task Force-Bravo, the U.S. military's lead expeditionary force in Central and South America, relied on Parisano's Blackhawk piloting skills. Central Honduras' Soto Cano provides regional humanitarian, disaster response, and security missions.
“His contribution to our team is immeasurable,” Alder said. “All who knew and served with him will miss him.”
The Army is helping Parisano's family during this tough time. Services for Soto Cano military members include grief counseling and assistance.
