An 11-year-old Texas girl has turned a simple lemonade stand into a heartfelt tribute to her late father, raising nearly $3,000 to purchase a headstone almost two years after his death.

Kaylee Hernandez said she had long wanted to help give her father a permanent memorial, but financial challenges prevented her family from buying a custom headstone.

Determined to help, Kaylee organized a lemonade stand over the weekend in her father's honor. What she expected to be a small fundraiser quickly became a community-wide show of support.

"The community really showed out; I really, truly appreciate it," Kaylee said. "I was like, whoa."

Residents lined up throughout the day to buy lemonade, donate money and encourage the young fundraiser.

Among the first visitors was a man who had worked alongside Kaylee's father, making the experience even more meaningful for the family.

"A guy who was one of the first people in line knew my dad," Kaylee said. "He went to work with my dad."

By the end of the fundraiser, Kaylee had collected nearly $3,000—enough to purchase the specialized headstone her family had hoped to place at her father's grave.

On Monday, the memorial was ordered through Resthaven Funeral Home. The family expects it to arrive within six to nine weeks.

Kaylee said the overwhelming community response reminded her that her father's memory continues to live on in the people who knew him.

"He saw people showing up for him," she said. "I did it, but it was for him. He saw people who care for him and me. It was good."

The fundraiser not only fulfilled Kaylee's goal of honoring her father but also demonstrated the impact a community can have by rallying behind a family during a difficult time.
