Two businesses in Lubbock have received prestigious recognition from the Small Business Administration (SBA), highlighting the city's dynamic entrepreneurial landscape.
Hub City Body Shop has been recognized as the top family-owned business in the SBA West Texas District. Additionally, Sherry Clark, the owner of the Culinary Co-Op, received the prestigious title of Small Business Owner of the Year from the Lubbock SBA office.
Numerous remarkable and impressive businesses are thriving in Lubbock. “Being chosen to receive this award is heartwarming and humbling,” Clark stated.
According to Randy Burch from the Small Business Development Center in Lubbock, the SBA awards are determined by various criteria, which encompass business growth, innovation, and financial stability.
“Our mission is to assist in initiating and expanding small businesses.” “Our goal is to serve as the comprehensive resource for small businesses,” Burch stated. Each year, a selection of businesses is nominated to be evaluated by the Small Business Administration at the local office, where they undergo a judging process. Several individuals advance to compete in regional or national awards.
Despite not advancing to the national level, both Hub City Body Shop and the Culinary Co-Op conveyed their sincere appreciation for the recognition they received.
Dan Seay, owner of Hub City Body Shop, expressed his emotions upon receiving the nomination for the award, stating, “For us, when we got nominated for the award, it was a little emotional because we’ve been doing this for about 20 years, and we put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into the business.” “Receiving that acknowledgment and celebrating it held significant importance.”
Both businesses have established themselves as essential components of Lubbock, playing a significant role in bolstering the local economy and fostering community development. Seay’s family-operated auto repair shop has built a reputation for delivering quality service and fostering enduring customer relationships. Meanwhile, Clark’s Culinary Co-Op provides a collaborative environment for food entrepreneurs to develop and expand their businesses.
The awards underscore the resilience and innovation within small businesses in the region, a sector that remains vital to job creation and economic vitality in West Texas.
