The City of Lubbock is extending the application deadline for its Summer Field Services Program and Summer Office Services Program, giving young applicants more time to acquire internships this summer.

Applications for those positions will be accepted now through Friday, May 15, for positions slated from June to July 2026, city officials said. The programs are open to individuals aged 17 to 22 and offer practical insight into the workings of local authorities.

Interns are matched with various jobs within city departments, giving them exposure to both field work and administrative functions. The idea, officials said, is to enable students and young residents to explore career possibilities in public service while honing practical skills.

The release said applicants chosen for the programs who successfully complete the internship may also be eligible to apply for full-time employment with the city.

The delay comes as the city continues to recruit for the summer cohort and hopes to boost participation among qualified candidates.

Those interested can submit items through the city’s online site. The city has provided contact information for prospective candidates with questions about the program, including an email address and a phone number.

City officials said the internships are part of ongoing workforce development efforts to prepare young residents for future jobs and to support city operations during the summer months.
