Republican candidate Abraham Enriquez held a campaign event in Lubbock on Wednesday, as the May 26 primary runoff election approaches for Texas’s 19th Congressional District.

Enriquez is in a competitive race with fellow Republican Tom Sell for the party's nomination, with the victor poised to challenge Democrat Kyle Rable in the upcoming November general election.

During a campaign event in downtown Lubbock, Enriquez highlighted his platform, which prioritizes law enforcement and border security.

“It is evident that we are the candidate focused on law and order,” Enriquez stated. “I feel incredibly fortunate for the dedicated team we have on the ground…” “No one has assembled a grassroots army quite like ours,” stated a spokesperson.

Enriquez has stated that his primary focus is to formalize the border policies established by former President Donald Trump into legislation. Enriquez has garnered the endorsement of Paul Perez, who expressed confidence that Enriquez would back law enforcement initiatives.

“From the very beginning, we have witnessed the effectiveness of law enforcement when they are permitted to carry out their duties,” Perez stated. “Abraham Enriquez is expected to step in and provide the necessary support.”

Enriquez has received an endorsement from Mark McBrayer, who expressed his support earlier this month.

Enriquez emphasized the challenges facing rural communities, particularly in the realms of agriculture and economic competition, extending the discussion beyond the topic of border security.

“There is a pressing need to transform the farm bill and implement policies that genuinely support small ranchers and farmers,” he stated. Advocates for West Texas are expressing strong support for the region's efforts to surpass China in the artificial intelligence sector. However, they emphasize the importance of ensuring that these advancements remain accountable to the local population.

The upcoming runoff comes after a highly competitive primary, during which four former candidates have pledged their support for Sell in anticipation of the final vote. As of Wednesday, Sell had not provided a response to interview requests.

Early voting has commenced, as the nation prepares for Election Day on May 26.

“I believe my greatest strength lies in my faith,” Enriquez stated. “My faith serves as my foundation and the driving force behind my determination to succeed in this race.”
