The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce revealed on Monday that President and CEO Kay McDowell will be stepping down by the end of the year, following four years of significant transformation within the organization.
Since taking charge in 2020, McDowell has led a comprehensive rebranding effort, optimized membership and event procedures, and managed the introduction of The Chamber Co Lab, a 9,000-square-foot collaborative space located at 1500 Broadway, Suite 101. Earlier this year, the facility was introduced to promote innovation and strengthen connections among chamber members.
“Kay’s leadership has significantly influenced the Lubbock Chamber and the broader Lubbock business community,” stated Robert Wood, chair of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. “Her vision, energy, and capacity to implement ambitious concepts have significantly enhanced the Chamber in remarkable ways.”
The Chamber Board announced that a formal search for McDowell’s successor is set to commence shortly. She will stay in her position throughout the transition and will continue to provide support to the organization as the search for new leadership unfolds.
McDowell and her husband, Dr. Scott McDowell, who serves as the president of Lubbock Christian University, have announced their intention to stay in Lubbock.
Her exit signifies a pivotal change for one of the city's most powerful business entities, which, during her tenure, established itself as a central point for local entrepreneurs and a catalyst for regional economic advancement.
