A Texas Tech mechanical engineering professor has returned to teaching after undergoing a kidney transplant. The donor was the husband of one of the professor's former students. The professor, Jeff Hanson, had been in need of a kidney and was facing the prospect of starting dialysis.
An outpouring of support led to 200 people offering to donate a kidney. Further details about the transplant and Hanson's recovery are available. Hanson has expressed strong emotions when discussing the situation.
The transplant was made possible after another former student, Jennifer Cox, initially went through the donor process but was denied due to a scan result.
