The South Plains Food Bank is raising the alarm because supplies are running low, and demand is increasing across the area. CEO Dina Jeffries says that food banks all over the country are facing the same problems, but the situation in West Texas is particularly severe.

Jeffries said, "Right now, we're facing a perfect storm: we have less federal funding, less food coming our way, and more people who need help." Food costs remain high, and families are struggling to make ends meet. More people need our help than ever.

Jeffries made it clear that food is not a luxury but a fundamental human right.

"The people in our families, our children, and our veterans deserve to eat and have food on the table," she said. "When we share a meal, we share more than just food. We share our lives."

To help close the gap, the food bank is seeking both cash donations and volunteer assistance. Jeffries said that volunteers are crucial for the group to maximize its limited funds.

She said, "Volunteers are what keep our organization going." "That's the same as having over twenty full-time employees when you track over 45,000 volunteer hours in a year."

Jeffries remains positive despite the challenges. He says that the South Plains community's attitude of kindness has always made a difference.

He said, "We will continue to fight the good fight." "I'm just thankful that we live in a community that sees our needs and comes through for us. I know that will continue to happen."

The South Plains Food Bank wants everyone who can to help make sure that no family goes hungry. You can help by giving time, money, or food.
