Like fall sports, the Panhandle South Plains Fair comes back as summer ends. It is one of Lubbock's most loved events. When it opens on September 19 and runs through September 27, the fair will have been going on for 108 years.

The event planners say there will be rides, fair games, animal shows, and live music again next year. Popular shows like the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show and the Swifty Swine Racing Pigs are among the draws. Both run during the week. The webpage for the fair has a complete list of all the shows and events.

Food is an integral part of any fair, and the South Plains Fair is famous for its snacks, like foot-long corn dogs and fried cheese on a stick. Churches and non-profits run many food booths, so buying something there helps the Lubbock community.

The people who put on the nine-day event said, "The fair just keeps getting better every year."

For more than one hundred years, families from all over West Texas have come to the Panhandle South Plains Fair, which is one of the area's oldest customs.
