The 34th Annual 4th on Broadway Parade took place in downtown Lubbock on Friday morning, drawing thousands of people to the event. The parade, featuring colorful floats, music, and treats for kids, was a joyful celebration of America's freedom.
People lined the streets to hear the marching bands, see the creative floats, and catch the candy that the parade players threw. Mayor Mark McBrayer said he hoped the event would bring happiness to people and give the city a sense of community.
During the parade, McBrayer said, "I am here because I want everyone in Lubbock to have a happy Independence Day and thank God for your life and freedom." "And I want you to go find happiness today."
The Lubbock Ghostbusters participated in the show to ensure the crowd had an enjoyable time. Walt Lazdowski of the group said, "We just want to help spread the word about the parade, keep it going, and do what we can to help." "Just putting everything together and making people happy."
Nicholas Rios and his family and friends came to the parade to celebrate. Rios said, "We came to have fun, get some candy, and enjoy the Fourth of July."
Mayor McBrayer said that the Fourth of July is more than just a time to have fun. It is also a time to remember those who gave their lives for our country and to bring people together. "It is to honor our military, build community, and bring us all together," he said. "There is nothing better than seeing all the happy kids as you drive down the street." It is a fantastic event.
Even if you missed the morning fun, you can still join the parties at the South Plains Fairgrounds on Friday night. At 7 p.m., Mariachi Azteca, Paul Wall, and the main act, Smash Mouth, will start the Law-palooza. Finally, at 10 p.m., H-E-B will put on a fireworks show with both old and new national songs to light up the sky.
