It has been cool in the mornings and rained a few times this week, but the South Plains and Lubbock will soon have warmer days.

On Friday night, small storms will keep moving from northeast to southwest, bringing short rainstorms, minor hail, and lightning. The chance of severe weather is still low, and rain should get lighter after dark.

The weather is getting warmer over the weekend. It will be cool in the morning on Saturday but mostly sunny by the afternoon. In Lubbock, the high temperature will be around 77 degrees. Strong winds from the northeast will reach up to 20 miles per hour. The weather will get a little warmer by Sunday. Highs will be around 80 degrees, and there will be lots of sunshine.

As the week progresses, an upper-level band of high pressure will settle over the area, making it even warmer. On Monday, highs will likely reach the upper 80s. On Tuesday and Wednesday, they will stay in the mid-80s. It's not likely to rain until mid-week, but winds will get stronger, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday, with gusts of up to 25 miles per hour.

There will be a slight chance of storms again by the end of next week, giving people another chance to get rain. For now, it will be sunny and warm in Lubbock.

This is a taste of early summer warmth across the South Plains.
