Since its opening in 2021, the Lubbock VA Clinic has delivered health care and support services to over 9,000 veterans throughout West Texas, providing medical, dental, and behavioral health care conveniently located nearby.

Laura Maul, a spokesperson for the clinic, stated that the facility was established to address the increasing needs of veterans in the Lubbock area and to guarantee that those who served the nation receive excellent care without the burden of long-distance travel.

“We offer primary care along with specialties such as dental, dermatology, pathology, and urology,” Maul stated. “We provide an urgent care clinic, along with behavioral health services, which are crucial for our veterans.” Throughout the year, we organize numerous events in collaboration with our behavioral and rural health partners.

Maul stated that the clinic’s behavioral health department is essential to supporting veterans' emotional and psychological well-being. “We have a therapist available.” “We offer counseling, support groups, and outreach services,” she stated. “We aim to ensure that every veteran is aware of the support available to them.”

For veterans such as William Riley, who served in the U.S. Army, the clinic has had a transformative impact on their lives.

“The team excels in their roles—from the volunteers to the nurses to the caregivers and the techs,” Riley stated. “I have always established a good rapport with everyone I encountered, and everyone has performed well for me.” They genuinely care about all of us, everyone.

The services offered by the Lubbock VA Clinic exemplify the Department of Veterans Affairs' overarching mission to enhance access to care for veterans in rural areas. The clinic provides not only primary and specialty care but also mental health counseling, group therapy, and outreach programs to connect veterans with community resources.

Officials announced their intention to develop collaborations with local organizations further and to enhance awareness of available programs, particularly in behavioral health and preventive care.

Veterans and their families can learn more about eligibility, appointments, and available programs by visiting VA.gov or contacting the Lubbock VA Clinic directly.
