On Thursday, a tornado in Lubbock County scared Bobby Rex, his two teenage children, and his 15-year-old daughter when it flipped over their mobile home in Shallowater. Rex had lived in the trailer with his daughter, 13-year-old son, and another family member for almost two years. He and his daughter were taken to the University Medical Center but were later released.

In the days following the accident, Rex had gone back to the destroyed property more than once to look through the wreckage for any lost items. "It is literally everything that we got is just sitting in that car still," Rex said, referring to the few things he was able to get back: a cooler, a poster, a shirt, and some clothes.

As Rex kept searching carefully, he slowly found more of his and his children's things in the ruins. His insurance agents were supposed to assess the damage and compile a list of the items that were lost.

Rex was very thankful that they were alive after thinking about the close call. "Honestly, I’m really lucky to be alive because if you see the power cable, it’s so tall it’s probably keeping the trailer from falling and crushing the rest of the way," he said.

Rex made one clear wish: a storm shelter. He was not sure where he would live in the future. "I’d definitely want a storm shelter for sure now," he said. Someone who knows Rex started a GoFundMe drive to help the family with their recovery.
