A grand jury in Lubbock County has indicted a 25-year-old man in connection with a shooting incident that occurred earlier this month at a motel in south Lubbock, where he allegedly shot another man in the face.

The Lubbock County Detention Center has been holding Drukerick Dickson since January 9. He is currently facing a second-degree felony charge for aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon. The court has established a bond amount of $250,000.

Dickson faces accusations related to the January 6 shooting incident involving 37-year-old Joe Reyes at the Lonestar Inn, located in the 4800 block of Avenue Q.

Lubbock police officers responded to a shots-fired call at a motel, where they discovered Reyes with a gunshot wound to the face, as detailed in an arrest warrant. An ambulance transported him to University Medical Center for treatment.

Authorities from the Lubbock Police Department's major crimes unit have identified Dickson as a suspect following an examination of motel surveillance footage that allegedly recorded the shooting incident.

A warrant revealed that Dickson arrived at the motel at approximately 12:30 p.m. and knocked on multiple doors in search of a woman. Reyes was in one of those rooms and promptly answered the door when approached.

Authorities report that Dickson left the motel and returned approximately 11 hours later, during which they observed him arguing with Reyes. The altercation escalated into the parking lot, where Dickson was reported to have a firearm at his side. Reyes maintained a distance of approximately 20 to 30 feet behind.

A warrant reveals that Dickson allegedly turned a corner and discharged two shots, hitting Reyes in the eye. Reyes collapsed onto the ground.

Authorities are investigating a potential link between Dickson and an additional shooting incident that occurred at approximately 1:10 p.m. The incident took place on the same day, approximately three blocks away from the motel. Authorities confirmed that no injuries occurred during the incident.

The day after the incident, investigators secured an arrest warrant. Officials from the Lubbock, Texas, Anti-Gang Center took Dickson into custody in the 1900 block of 21st Street on January 8.

The individual remains in custody while the legal proceedings progress through the court system.
