A small amount of Blue Bell Creameries' Moo-llennium Crunch ice cream has been voluntarily recalled because it was put in Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough cartons by mistake, which raised worries about nuts that were not declared.
The company said it was recalling the nuts on Friday, August 22, because the boxes were incorrectly labeled with almonds, walnuts, and pecans. According to the company's news release, people who are allergic to nuts could have major or even life-threatening reactions if they eat the product.
The mistake was found by a Blue Bell worker who was restocking a store and saw that two half-gallon boxes were packed incorrectly. So far, there have been no reports of illnesses or inadequate responses. The company said that currently, no more mislabeled goods have been found.
These half-gallons of Moo-llennium Crunch ice cream come in Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough boxes with a Moo-llennium Crunch lid. On the top of the carton lid, the recalled item has the number 061027524 written on it.
Alabama, Arkansas, northwest Georgia, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and southwest Virginia were some of the states that received delivery of the goods.
Blue Bell told people who bought the mislabeled boxes to take them back to the store where they purchased them and get their money back in full.
The recall only affects the half-gallon cartons in question; it does not affect any other Blue Bell goods.
The company said that people who are allergic to or very sensitive to almonds, walnuts, or pecans could have a dangerous or life-threatening reaction.
Blue Bell, which is based in Brenham, has had to recall products in the past due to contamination concerns. However, the company stressed that this recall is due to a mistake in the packaging and not a problem with the safety of the product.
People can get in touch with Blue Bell directly through its website or customer service line to find out more.
