Aaron Waldrip has been selected as the sole finalist for the position of superintendent of Lubbock-Cooper Independent School District (LCISD), as confirmed by an official announcement from the district’s Board of Trustees on Wednesday.

Waldrip, with 18 years of experience in education, is set to take over as the new superintendent of LCISD, following the retirement of Keith Bryant. He currently holds the superintendent position at Abernathy ISD and will assume his new role after the mandated 21-day waiting period.

Paul Ehlers, president of the LCISD Board of Trustees, expressed his pleasure in welcoming Mr. Waldrip to Lubbock-Cooper ISD. "There is confidence that Mr. Waldrip will uphold the cherished traditions that define the LCP community, while advancing the robust legacy of excellence for which the district is recognized."

The decision has been reached after a thorough months-long search process, which involved interviews with various candidates and community feedback.

Waldrip has dedicated 14 of his 18 years in education to various leadership positions, including roles as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent. A graduate of Texas Tech University, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Sciences and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership.

His leadership roles reach far beyond the confines of local schools. Waldrip has held the position of Region 17 TASA President, contributed to various state-level committees within the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA), chaired a UIL District Executive Committee, and engaged in the Texas Lead Rural Fellowship, emphasizing innovation in small schools.

“I am honored and extremely excited to be named the sole finalist,” stated Waldrip. "Lubbock-Cooper stands out as a community with a rich tradition of excellence. The commitment to collaboration among students, staff, families, and the broader community is set to enhance that legacy and pave the way for a promising future."

His official appointment is anticipated to occur after the state-mandated waiting period concludes.
