A 71-year-old anesthesiologist from Lubbock has been indicted and charged with sexual assault related to an incident reported earlier this year, as per court and jail records acquired on Friday.

John Quincy Adams, a licensed physician in Texas since 1986, was taken into custody on Thursday by the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office in the 6500 block of 82nd Street. A 21-year-old woman has accused him of assault after an evening out in March. As of Friday afternoon, Adams remains in custody at the Lubbock County Detention Center, with a bond set at $100,000.

Legal filings indicate that the purported incident took place on March 28, 2024. Authorities responded to the emergency room at University Medical Center following a report of a sexual assault by a woman. The victim informed authorities that she was acquainted with Adams via her boyfriend's family, who had established connections with the doctor over time.

A report reveals that the woman, along with her boyfriend and Adams, visited multiple bars before heading back to Adams’s home. Upon arrival, the woman allegedly lost consciousness in a bathroom and subsequently regained awareness in a bedroom situated above Adams’s “man cave.” She reported to authorities that she woke up to someone making unwanted physical contact, but still feeling the effects of her hangover, she drifted back to sleep.

In the early hours, she remembered Adams looking for his glasses on the bed where she was resting. She reported that he made contact with her once more and kissed her before exiting the room. The woman reported to authorities that all physical interactions were non-consensual.

The Texas Medical Board (TMB) reports that Adams holds a current license specializing in anesthesiology. Although his practice address is noted as his home in South Lubbock, there is no evidence suggesting he is connected to any nearby hospital at this time. Historical records indicate that he previously held privileges at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.

The inquiry is still in progress. Adams has yet to make a public statement regarding the allegations.
